Psoas pain is associated with a condition known as **Psoas Syndrome**. This syndrome is characterized by painful irritation or an injury in one of your psoas muscles. The psoas muscles are a pair of long muscles that run from your lower back to the top of your hips on either side of your spine.
The most common symptom of Psoas Syndrome is pain in the lower back, hips, or groin. You might also experience:
– Lower back pain, especially in the border between the bottom of your spine and your butt (the lumbosacral region).
– Stiffness or tightness in your lower back.
– Butt pain.
– Groin pain.
– Hip pain.
– Pain that may get worse in certain positions or during physical activities.
– Pain that might spread (radiate) down your legs or get worse when you try to stand up straight.
Psoas Syndrome is often caused by overusing your hips and sports injuries. Some cases happen without an obvious cause. Rarely, it occurs when infections or cancers spread to your psoas muscles. Athletes, especially those involved in dance, running, track and field sports, hockey, etc., are more likely to develop Psoas Syndrome.
