Lots of things can make your muscles lose strength and leave you feeling weak. Sometimes it happens all of a sudden. But muscle weakness is more likely to affect you little by little over time. So you may feel like it sneaked up on you. And keep in mind: Muscle weakness is different from fatigue or pain.        <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8895\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-1.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-1-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting Older<\/h2>\n\n<p>It\u2019s normal to lose some muscle mass and get weaker with age. Doctors call this sarcopenia. You probably won\u2019t notice it much before your 60s or 70s. Sarcopenia also can also come with other health conditions that make you inactive. If your doctor suspects sarcopenia, they may test for it by seeing how fast you can walk.     <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8897\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-2.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-2-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Your Medicines<\/h2>\n\n<p>Some medications can weaken your muscles. These include corticosteroids like prednisone and cholesterol-lowering statins. If you feel weak and don\u2019t know why, ask your doctor or pharmacist if it might be a side effect of any medicine you\u2019re taking.    <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-9.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-9.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-9-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cold or Flu<\/h2>\n\n<p>If you have a bad cold, the flu, or some other bug, it can leave you feeling tired and weak. Flu symptoms can linger for up to a couple of weeks. But they should go away once you get better. Some viruses can infect the muscle itself to cause weakness. This isn\u2019t likely to happen if you&#8217;re otherwise healthy.       <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-4.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8901\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-4.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-4-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">COVID-19<\/h2>\n\n<p>COVID-19 signs are often similar to those of the flu and include coughing, fever, and fatigue. But COVID also can cause symptoms in other parts of the body, including muscle weakness. If a bad case of COVID or any other illness keeps you in bed at home or in the hospital for days or weeks, your muscles also will lose strength fast. Physical therapy or exercises you do at home will help you get your strength back.       <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8899\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Muscle Injury<\/h2>\n\n<p>Did you lift something that was too heavy for you? Or does your work involve a lot of repetition? If so, the cause of your muscle weakness could be a muscle strain or even a tear. If it isn\u2019t too bad, following the R.I.C.E. approach at home can help your injury heal:     <\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Rest<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Ice<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Compression<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Elevation<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 See a doctor if your injury gets worse. Regular stretching and exercises can help to keep your muscles strong and prevent future injuries. <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-7.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8907\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-7.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-7-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Multiple Sclerosis<\/h2>\n\n<p>Muscle weakness can be a sign of a serious health condition like multiple sclerosis (MS). When you have it, your immune system attacks the protective layer that surrounds your nerve fibers. This leads to a breakdown in communication between the brain and other parts of your body. Signs and symptoms of MS vary widely from one person to the next, but they often include numbness or weakness in one or both arms and legs.     <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-8.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8909\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-8.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-8-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">stroke<\/h2>\n\n<p>If your muscles get weak suddenly, it might be a stroke. Most of the time, muscle weakness related to a stroke will affect one side of your body and not the other. You may also notice:    <\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Dizziness<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Blurred vision<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Trouble walking or talking<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Loss of balance and\/or coordination<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Confusion<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Headache<\/p>\n\n<p>Stroke is a medical emergency. If you think you or someone else is having a stroke.<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-6.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8905\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-6.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-6-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other Conditions<\/h2>\n\n<p>Many other health conditions can come with muscle weakness. These include: <\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Sleep disorders<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Thyroid disorders<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Chronic fatigue syndrome<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Dermatomyositis, polymyositis, and other myopathies  <\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Myasthenia gravis<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Heart failure<\/p>\n\n<p>\u2022 Diabetes<\/p>\n\n<p>If you think you&#8217;re losing strength and you don\u2019t know why, see your doctor. It may be a sign of a serious health problem.  <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8903\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-5-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pregnancy<\/h2>\n\n<p>There are many signs and symptoms of pregnancy, including fatigue, but muscle weakness generally isn\u2019t one of them. If you have another condition like myasthenia gravis that weakens your muscles, pregnancy might make it worse. See your doctor if you\u2019re pregnant and have muscle weakness you can\u2019t explain. While rare, it could be a sign of a health problem like Guillain-Barr\u00e9 syndrome.      <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-10.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8913\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-10.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-10-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your Doctor Can Help<\/h2>\n\n<p>If it\u2019s hard to do things you used to be able to do because of muscle weakness, see your doctor. They\u2019ll likely do an exam and ask you questions. They may order tests to see how strong your muscles are. The results can help them figure out what\u2019s wrong. They also can help to tell the difference between muscle weakness and other problems you may be having with pain, balance, or endurance.      <\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"728\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-11.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8915\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-11.jpeg 728w, https:\/\/asayedissa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-11-300x200.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 728px) 100vw, 728px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What You Can Do<\/h2>\n\n<p>Whether your muscle weakness happens because you\u2019re not as active, or it\u2019s due to age or a health problem, regular exercise may help you regain some strength. Ask your doctor for advice, or consider seeing a physical therapist to help you find a healthy exercise routine.
